110727 Stars Share Their Maintenance Products, To Beat The Summer Heat

Even idol stars, when faced with the blazing summer heat will inevitably lose strength. With a schedule actively packed with television appearances, commercials and magazines in a day, they are bound to lose their appetite, and become weaker. Artists have harder work schedule than most people, so what is their secret to maintaining their pale complexion in the middle of summer? Let us start by studying the types of nutritional products that artists who are losing strength like to eat.

JYJ, who cannot be without Ginseng Chicken Soup and Gongjindan

To JYJ, who are already known to be regular gourmets, a “hot summer day” is a day to eat out. Kim Jaejoong, who is currently involved in the shooting of drama “Protect the Boss” enjoys eating spicy food, and uses spicy noodle soup, and spicy stir-fried squid and other dishes to welcome the hot summer.
Park Yoochun, who is currently taking a break after the filming of “Miss Ripley,” is truly the iced tea spokesperson, and prefers to eat summer fruits. Differing from his fashionble “city” look, he really enjoys eating spicy chicken & potato stew and kalguksu (Korean knife-cut noodles) and other Korean dishes.

Kim Junsu, who is participating in the OST of the anticipated drama “Scent of a Woman” enjoys chicken dishes, and ginseng chicken soup is his favourite nutritious dish. Also, the “gongjindan” (Korean supplement) which became well-known due to the MBC drama “Greatest Love” is also a necessity for the JYJ members.

110726 New Topic In Kpop : Overcome Three Main Barriers

Currently, K-pop has broken past the first barrier. That is to say, they have already established the value of their existence. However, this is just the beginning. To globalize K-pop, there are three main issues they need to overcome.

Break away from “Idol Stars”

The first generation of Hallyu was led by actors. Korean dramas were pushed forward in large numbers, with Bae Yong Jun, Lee Byung Hyun, Song Seung Hun, Kwong Sang-Woo and other actors becoming popular as Hallyu idols. However, due to extensive “blank periods” and poor management, the hallyu wave that was led by actors became stagnant.

During this time, the idol stars seized the opportunity and took over this space. Led by TVXQ, and now SNSD, Kara etc, a large volume of girl groups have been gaining the attention of overseas markets. They spearhead the Korean Idol culture, and have broken the geographic barriers between countries.

However, this trend is starting to be a little overdone, and has established the stereotype that “Hallyu = Idol stars.” Aside from music, even dramas such as “Playful Kiss” and “You’re Beautiful” star members from idol groups. To ensure that Hallyu wave can make better progress, aside from appealing to the younger age groups with idol groups, we urgently need to grasp and establish ourselves in a broader age categories and a variety of Hallyu elements. A person related to one of the idol groups said, “We need to discover new hallyu stars, to appeal to the overseas fans who do not like idol groups. If we can give them a stage (opportunity,) then the hallyu wave will be able to progress further.

Break Away From The Japanese Market

Japan, which is located next to Korea is one of the biggest appreciators of the Hallyu culture. From another angle, you can say that it was the Japanese fans’ support that have helped the hallyu stars to grow. Aside from Japan, China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and various Asian regions have seen a rise in popularity for Hallyu stars. However the truth is, a majority of the hallyu stars are over-reliant on the Japanese market’s support.

With TVXQ, Big Bang, SNSD, Kara and others, recently everyone is trying to break into the Japanese market. They are very sensitive towards the Oricon rankings. The strange thing is that, compared to the current lack of emphasis on song ranking programs in the Korean market, Korean singers are more sensitive to the ranking charts in Japan. This shows that they are using this (Oricon rankings) as a measure of their popularity in Japan.

Aside from Japan, starting from the time of H.O.T., Hallyu stars have been enjoying great popularity in China. However, the issue is that the public is only focused on a specific few stars. Although Super Junior, Rain, SNSD and other are very popular, but China, unlike Japan, is still unable to allow more groups and singers to actively promote there.

And under such circumstances, the group JYJ released their first English album “The Beginning” in October last year, and was judged as “daring to try something new.” JYJ joined hands with famous American producers Kanye West and Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, and using the new group name “JYJ” released their first album produced in English. This album bears the significance of “starting their journey towards the world stage.” The three members, who have dominated the Japanese and Asian markets, have set their sights on the global market, and can be regarded as leaders in “breaking away from Japan.”

Someone in the music industry said, “When you analyze the structure of the Chinese market, it’s not hard to know that they are more appealing than the Japanese market. But so far, the progress of singers has not been as smooth as in Japan. Aside from that, they should also be looking at Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan etc, and create more roadways for the Hallyu wave.”

Break Away from Stereotypes!

The first pioneers of the hallyu wave were dramas. “Jewel in the Palace,” “Winter Sonata” made it big, and big stars like Bae Young Jun and Lee Young-Ae were born. Recently, due to “You’re Beautiful,” Jang Geun Suk has become the new hallyu star, but compared to the time of “Winter Sonata,” the power of dramas in the hallyu wave has been considerably diminished.

And the space left by the dramas was filled by K-pop. The hallyu market which was dominated by male idols has now hit a turning point led by SNSD and Kara. K-pop can be considered as the successor to J-pop, which has captured the Asian music market.

On the other hand, the power of the hallyu wave at Chungmuro (T/N: refers to the film industry – Chungmuro is the street in Korea that is famous for culture & film) has become plain. Actors who have become hallyu stars through their dramas also boosts the popularity of the movies they are featured in, but using popularity to break into the Japanese film industry is not enough, a situation where “the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” Someone related to sales in the hallyu market said, “Korean movies have been promoted in various overseas markets, but the effect is not strong enough to be considered part of the hallyu wave. Unlike television dramas which can be watched on public broadcast, movies require an entrance fee, so the visibility among the masses is lower.”

If we want to the multi-faceted Korean culture to be embraced in all fields, not just for dramas and music, we need to promote our movies, games and food as well as other areas, and introduce more variety.

110727 JYJ To Release Korean Album This Year‏

JYJ will release a Korean album in Korea finally. The release date is unconfirmed but JYJ has expressed that “The release is targeted to be this year and is currently in production.”

This Korean album release will be the 2nd album after “The Beginning” release during last year’s October. Upon reporter’s interview, they said, “Although it is good to fix the release date but it is still unconfirmed. This Korean album was prepared in order to thank the domestic fans.”

An interesting point this time will be whether JYJ are able to participate in promotional activities for this album. When the three members sang ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’ theme song, Found You, the song came in first place in KBS’s Music Bank but was unable to appear on the programme and resulted in commotion. At that time, KBS expressed, “If it is an official album release, they will be able to appear on the music programme.” To this, CJeS said, “Hopefully there are not external pressure or prohibition this time.”

Additionally, JYJ received the cancellation notice for KBS’s “Jeju New 7th Wonder Wishes Special’ just four days before the broadcast and the representative company have submitted the complaint to the official committee.

110726 JYJ’s Jaejoong delivers an eye-catching presentation for ‘Protect the Boss’

JYJ’s Jaejoong recently stunned his co-stars and production crew by pulling off an impressive presentation scene for SBS’s ‘Protect the Boss‘.
Considered as the ‘prince of the financial world’, Jaejoong plays the role of the director of headquarters, ‘Cha Moo Won’. Mid-July, he had to record a scene where his character was to give a professional presentation during a meeting.

Although the script was filled with professional terms that he wasn’t familiar with, Jaejoong spent every spare moment he had to pick apart and analyze each term in order to better understand his script.

What surprised staff the most was that he didn’t make one NG once the cue sign was made from PD Son Jung Hyun. One representative said, “Jaejoong received a round of applause from staff after completing his world tour, which he directed, from April through June. That same passion and sincerity is being reflected in this drama.”

‘Protect the Boss’ will begin airing on August 3rd.

JYJ member Kim Jaejoong showed his close friendship with Kim Hyunjoong.

In a recent interview with Seoul News NTN. Kim Jaejoong talks about interesting episodes between himself and Kim Hyunjoong, who are both same-age friends in the entertainment circle.

On this day, when Kim Jaejoong was talking about being a director for concerts, he was asked, “What if you were to be the director for another artist’s concert?” Jaejoong thought about this question for a while, then asked the reporter, “How about Kim Hyunjoong?” Kim Jaejoong said, “He will probably do it himself, although I’m not sure if he will do a concert or not, but it’s possible that he might do it.”

“A few days ago, while drinking with Kim Hyunjoong, we talked about when we could possibly record an album together, and actually this has been a topic that we had discussed much earlier before. Then, Kim Hyunjoong had not signed a contract with a new agency yet so there was a rumour that he would join our company, but somehow, we talked about it again (Laughs)”

Kim Jaejoong also said “Working with Kim Hyunjoong should be very interesting, and it would be nice to hold a concert together, not for profit  but just for the fans. If I were to direct that, there should be no problems.”

Aside from Kim Hyunjoong, Kim Jaejoong and soccer player Jung Tae-Se, actors Song Joong Ki, Im Ju Hwan, Park Ji Bin, as well as Japan’s Ayumi Hamasaki, Yamashita Tomohisa and Shirota Yu were photographed together, earning him the nickname “Entertainment Network King” with “Crazy (amount of) contacts”

When talking about this, Kim Jaejoong waved his hands and said “I’m really not a network king”

“Korean artists and Japanese artists do make contact with each other, but it doesn’t happen often. I too don’t have a lot of friends, but it so happens that my friends are very famous. My friends are mostly interested in fashion, dance and acting, and we have common interests and points of views so we naturally became friends.”

Also, Kim Jaejoong will be making his debut as an actor, playing the role of the “Prince of the Financial World” Cha Mu Won “Protect the Boss,” which airs on 3 August.

110725 Avex Sues The Sumo Association For 143.4 Million Yen

(T/N: This article was translated from the magazine Shuukan Genzai. It’s a rather disorganized article and contains factual errors, so please take this article with a pinch of salt. Also, additional translator notes had to be added to make more sense out of this article, so please bear with me)

Even if you’ve never heard of the popular Korean idol group JYJ, you would probably be familiar with the name “Tohoshinki.” 5-man boyband Tohoshinki is a highly popular group that was ranked as the no.2 best selling artist for CDs & DVDs last year in Japan, with earnings close to  9.4 billion yen.

However, unexpected trouble has arisen due to their “Charity concert” which was held in the Ryogoku Kokugikan on 7 June this year.

Tohoshinki’s management company in Japan, the large recording label Avex has announced that they are currently suing the Japan Sumo Association, who owns and manages the Kokugikan. We will talk about the details of this lawsuit a little later,  but Tohoshinki has been facing various issues within the year.

During spring of last year, 3 of the 5 members in Tohoshinki revealed their unhappiness with the low amount of remuneration they were receiving, and broke away from their (Korean) management company, which is one of the largest entertainment companies in Korea. They became independent and started activities as “JYJ.” At the same time, they also left their Japanese management company Avex, and started doing activities independently. Currently, the two remaining members are continuing their promotional activities as “Tohoshinki.”

(T/N: This is a factual error. JYJ signed a new contract with Avex initially as JEJUNG/JUNSU/YUCHUN (JJY), which led to the release of the “The..” album as well as the “Thanksgiving Live in Dome” concerts, with Avex announcing the suspension of JYJ’s activities later in the year citing reasons as stated below)

However, it was later discovered that JYJ’s management company C-Jes Entertainment’s representative was involved in gang-related activities, and this was picked up by the sports papers. (T/N: Sports papers = Japanese tabloids)

Sending Propaganda Vehicles to Avex

Furthermore, this issue became complicated in May this year.

“On the morning of 6 May, in Tokyo’s Bunkyo City,  near Avex’s Executive Vice President Chiba Ryuhei’s home, right-wing propaganda vehicles turned up in an aggressive manner.

While yelling “AVEX!” they continuously played the Japanese anthem at a loud volume in the quiet residential area. These propaganda activities would happen for around 15 minutes at a time, and occur several times a day, continuing for a week. Chiba’s family were emotionally run down, and were too afraid to even step out of the house. Naturally, the police officers in the area came and gave repeated warnings about this.

Around the same time, the same propaganda vehicles visited the Avex head office in Aoyama, shouting about the nuclear plant and other unknown issues before leaving. The volume could be heard so loudly that it affected the operations within the office.” - Representative from the Police

The famous right-wing group that sent the vehicles explained that the protest was due to Avex’s actions to demand a prohibition.

<Korea’s JYJ planned to hold a charity concert in Saitama Super Arena aid of victims of the Tohoku Earthquake, an undertaking which would have contributed approximately 100 million yen but Avex used tyrannical methods to stop this from happening. When we heard about this….(omitted)  we felt that this was abhorrent behavior and therefore decided to protest against it.>

According to this right-wing group, JYJ had been planning for this charity since May of this year.

“Initially they planned to hold it at Tokyo Dome, and we received an inquiry from them. However, we hold the management rights within the country, and having this concert with such disregard would be a breach of contract, and therefore could not be allowed. The event location was informed that they would be held responsible as well, so Tokyo Dome refused to give its approval (for the event.)

C-Jes then approached Yokohama Arena, Saitama Super Arena and others, for a location to hold the event. We received inquiries from various locations and we gave the same explanation, requesting for them to desist. “

- Avex related personnel

Saitama Super Arena, who had already started selling tickets, panicked and withdrew (from the agreement) after receiving this notice from Avex.

Immediately after this, the protests happened.  Where the right-wing group heard about the event is unclear but, “After so much effort in organizing a charity event that could raise 100 million yen for the disaster victims, why are you raising objections and preventing the event from happening,” they argued with good reason.
It was around this time that suspicious people started “paying visits” to Avex.

Just before Golden Week, a man claiming to be from another right-wing group visited Avex, saying “The Koreans are helping to raise relief funds for the Japanese, so why are you causing problems for them?” and other things, raising his voice at the staff who served him.

Also, there was an incident of a man holding a name card of another group visiting the head office building, but was stopped by the security personnel.

Warnings Were Issued To (Japan Sumo Association) Chairman Hanaregoma

All of a sudden, the 7 June concert was to be held at the Kokugikan.

“An email came, with contents that said something similar to, “To the fans, this wouldn’t exactly be called a concert but more of a fanmeeting.” Although this was announced just before the event was held, most of the fans participated very happily. The tickets cost 8,500 yen per person. Compared to the time of Tohoshinki, the trio’s dances may seem a little lacking in power, and it was a pity that they couldn’t sing Tohoshinki songs, but the fans were really passionate as they were finally able to see the three members after a long time.“
- Female fan who attended the concert

However, Avex was enraged by this sudden concert. “We informed all concert venues that JYJ and C-JeS were in breach of contract, and requested for them not to hold the concert. However, the Kokugikan silently pushed through with it.

“On 10 May, we issued a warning letter addressed to the Executive Director of the Japan Sumo

Association(JSA) and distinctly requested for a cancellation. But a representative of the Sumo Association called us on 12 May and said “Settle the problem among yourselves,” “Because we have already given them approval to use the venue, and also received payment.” in a hostile manner.  On 2 June, just before the concerts, we sent another warning to Chairman Hanaregoma, but was completely ignored.” - Avex related personnel

Avex even applied for a provisional disposition to prevent the concert from happening, but it was held nonetheless. And now, they are now suing the Sumo Association and its management partners, requesting for 143.4 million yen in compensation at the Tokyo district courts.

This compensation amount was calculated from the expected profit that Avex would have earned as the rightful management company, if they had held the concert.

“All of the concert venues in Japan refused to hold this concert because they knew about the problems between ourselves, the right-wing groups and gang-related people. But for some reason, the Kokugikan agreed (to hold this concert.) We suspect that it’s possible that they may be connected to those (right-wing groups and/or gangs) sides” - Avex management staff

The Sumo circle have always seen gang-related people sitting in the “ijiin” seats (T/N: the best seats closest to the sumo ring) , and there has been rumours that the “oyakatas” (T/N: Sumo coaches) have gang connections as well. With regards to this lawsuit, the Sumo Association said, “ We have yet to be able to verify this writ, so we are unable to reply to your inquiries.”

For the Sumo Association, who were finally able to hold their “Grand Tournament,” after being plagued by misfortune, a popular idol group concert would definitely have been something that they would want very badly. However, it resulted in them antagonizing a big record company.

110725 JYJ Twitter

(Jaejoong) Junsu always woke up earlier than members and did his hair&make-up before the tired members. He has done that for the last 8 years. Junsu’s diligence is what brought us here, and as a fellow member and a friend I follow his example. I have life-long lessons to learn from Junsu.

(Jaejoong) Yuchun always maintains neutrality. He always stands watching everyone in middle of the members. So the members don’t get the time to think that they are alone. He has the freest spirit and he shares it with people. He lets everyone feel secure in times of hardship.

(Jaejoong) Junsu and Yuchun who makes [me] think I should do better…is greedy uhuhut!! (욕심쟁이 우후훗! is a punch line from Kneedrop Guru, describes people who wants to be better although they are already so well-rounded as being greedy)

(Jaejoong) I don’t know if I should say this…but I miss Yunho and Changmin…They are our members no matter what people say and they all know it better than anyone else..People might say I’m being silly…but I miss them after a long time

(Junsu) Hyung you know that?? there’s no other person like you in this world…??

(Jaejoong) I don’t think I need a girlfriend^^ I felt it yesterday shooting together with you all for the first time in a long time I don’t feel lacking by just by having you guys^^ you give me so much strength Junsu^^ We will always be together thank you for being by my side”

JYJ – Anan Interview (Forbidden Issue)

Note from SYC team
1. This interview was during 3HREEVOICES II DVD time.
2. Jaejoong and Yoochun flew to Japan before Junsu.
3. The interview contained the boys’ thoughts before their Charity Events in Japan.
4. This is the forbidden issue.

[TOHOSHINKI] a 5 member group that was extremely popular.

But 2009 summer, a shocking incident occurs. Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu, these 3 members filed a law suit against their agency to stop their contracts.

This made the “5 member” Tohoshinki’s activities to be suspended.

It has been a year and a half. The 3 members are facing many difficulties but have a new start as “JYJ”.

In Korea, they are not being able to go on music programs, and even in Japan, their activities are a blank.
Even at a situation like that, the album they released showed a big response, and through dramas, musicals,CF’s, their solo activities have been well received.

They are continuously showing results.

Also this month, the long-waited private DVD is going to be released.

The members who visited Japan after a long time, for a photoshoot, the fans welcomed them with passion.
The 3 members who are making their way, one step at a time right now, will we be able to interview them…?
They have finally responded to our offer.

JYJ who were filming for a DVD in Korea, we headed to Seoul in order to meet them!

Please enjoy the interview that was answered seriously, and the many expressions they showed the camera.

A day in March. In Seoul, Gangnam.

—– It’s”welcome back” right?
First of all, Yoochun-san, and Jaejoong-san, how was the photoshoot in Japan, after a long time?

Yoochun(YC): When I saw the Haneda Airport I thought, oh~ we’re in Japan, and was able to acknowledge it.

It has changed a lot! But seeing that, I thought, ‘Oh it’s Japan’. I went to many different places. Like the Tokyo Tower, Odaiba, Meguro-Gawa, and etc.

Jaejoong(JJ): Same for me. We didn’t go everywhere together though. Oh! And Shibuya! It was so crowded, that hasn’t changed! The DVD’s theme was “a place with a memory”.

YC: For instance, the Tokyo Tower was when we went for Tanabata. That time, we wrote on the paper with our wish on it, and hung it on a tree…ah,bamboo?

—— Do you remember what you wrote?

YC: I don’t remember- *laughs*

Junsu(JS): I remember! I wrote, I want to stand on a stage in Japan.

YC: …? Tokyo Dome right?

———– So, you remember *laughs*. Junsu-san, you re going to go after this, but where are you planing to go?

JS: I haven’t picked yet, but I’m thinking of going to the hot springs.

JJ: That’s a vacation, not work *laughs*

JS: Because, when I think memory in Japan, of course its the hot springs!

During the tour, we went with out members too.

YC: Hot springs are good. This time, I didn’t have time to do those things.

JS: More like, I only have hot springs to go too, so I told the other two they can’t go!

JJ: In the beginning we talked about where we want to go. But the places with memory…it’s alike
Yoochun and I went to all the places in the beginning, so Junsu had no where to go.

JS: Where should I go.

YC: What about FujiQ high land?

JS: Ah, that’s good. We have memory there too.

YC: Like Dodonpa. (a roller coaster ride at fujiQ)

JS: Until I get there,(to Fuji Q) it should be fun too.

JJ: But I think we will end up going to the same places, for sure.

JS: ….well,if it ends up like, there’s nothing we can do…. But, the most important thing is that we’re going to Japan.

We want to go back to Japan and have a tour.

YC: Yeah. Japan is, how do I say it…it’s already been 6 years.

JJ: Yeah. So it’s not really a foreign place anymore. But after last year’s a-nation, we didn’t go for like half a year.

Half a year is really long.

JS: It is long. For more than 5 years, we were going back and forth between Korea and Japan. So it was the first time, not going to Japan for half a year.

JJ: You forget the words too.

——— So you do forget the language.

JJ: But when you use it, you remember it.

JS: Right now, I’m speaking in Japanese after a really long time.

JJ: When you go to Japan again, you’ll be able to speak naturally. Yoochun was with Korean staff, but out of no where, he was speaking Japanese *laughs*

YC: I still watch “One Piece” on television every week.

——– Speaking of Japanese, Jaejoong-san had tweeted in Japanese several times but the two don’t use Japanese that often.

YC: Junsu, can you type Japanese?

JS: I can’t.

YC: Me too. I don’t know how. Since I’m doing it (tweeting) from my phone, I can’t type Japanese.

JS: I get asked from Japanese fans, “If I write in Japanese, can Junsu read it?” but we can read it. We can read it but we can’t type it. System-wise.

————– For half a year, the Japanese fans were ” Lacking JYJ”, but when you were in Korea, were you able to feel that?

JJ: We did feel that. A lot. They flew from Japan to come to our events and concerts.

Many fans from Japan came to watch Junsu’s musical, and several hundred people came to visit Yoochun’s drama set. On twitter and online, everyone is passionate.

I feel that, they are waiting for us all this time.

JS: Because we were able to feel everyone’s feelings, it was hard for us…. we wanted to go.
We wanted to go to Japan and meet everyone in Japan, we had feelings of apology.

——– How do your feelings towards doing activities in Japan differ from then and now?

JS: (Thinking for a long time) Out feelings haven’t changed that much.

We feel that doing activities in Japan itself, we want to… treasure it… and work hard a lot.

It was the same before, but it’s like that again. That kind of feeling/sense.

YC: If we can normally do activities like before that it would be good but…. we have many different issues, and can’t right now.

I want to go back to Japan as soon as possible and have a tour… A tour and things other than tours, I want to be able to make a lot of chances to meet everyone.

Because we have the fans support, we can think not to give up.

——– Last year, not just in Korea and Asia, you did some activities on Japan. What is your future plans?

JJ: Nothing is decided yet. In April, we’re going to have a world tour, and it’s after finishing the world tour.

——– Jaejoong-san, you’re the director for the world tour right?

JJ: Ah, yes! I decide the main/basic performance, and create the set list.

The live we did in Korea last year is used as the basic, and we’ll add a few more songs, change the performance, and edit the music orders. I’m hoping that it will be good.

——- it seems like you guys are going snow boarding, going a family trip, and having a satisfying private life. Is it like doing everything you all wanted to do before, all at once?

JS: Yes.

YC: Mmmm, I’m not really thinking about things like that, I’m just doing what came in my mind and thought “maybe I should do this-”.

———- Right now, at what times do you feel the most happiness?

YC: Everyday. (living life to the fullest) Everyday, I’m happy. Lately I’ve been going to eat with my family, now I have time to do things like that.

To be able to do those things, I now have more confidence, and time.

JS: For me… well, I think there is many different types of happiness but I feel the most happiness when I’m singing on stage.

Right now, there’s very little place I can feel that happiness…. The stage in Japan too, I’m hoping that we have more chance to sing on many stages. I want to feel the happiness I get from that more.

—— Last years New Years Eve,when Yoochun-san received the rookie award on “KBS Drama Award”, the 3 sang the title song “Found You” on stage.

YC: yes, for the first time.

JS: Last year singing that on stage was the first, and the last on television! *laughs*

——— How did you feel?

JS: it was a mix feeling… of course I was happy. I was happy but, feeling “happy” with just this one performance, it made me feel sad about myself that it made me happy.

But since it was a day to congratulate Yoochun and a happy day, I wanted to only think about good things. What I think is good is that, as an artist, being able to stand on stage isn’t a “normal” thing but “something really important”, that’s what we realised, that was really big….for us 3. With feelings like that, I think we matured compared to last year, and the year before.

JJ: What was normal became something that isn’t normal.

JS: Even during the difficult times, all of our fans are supporting us everyday, we feel that we cant give up, with that feeling right now, the 3 of us are “Gyu”/ hugging. *laughs* (Gyu- a sound effect in Japanese when you hug)

110724 Interview with JYJ’s Jaejoong in Khan News

Khan News recently held an interview with Kim Jaejoong. The interview discussed the premise behind “Protect the Boss,” as well as the preparations and anxiety that Jaejoong had to face for the drama. The translated article from Khan News can be found below:

Because he had been spending his entire day filming for his drama “Protect the Boss,” he did not even have time to eat at all. However, he also said that he did not have much of an appetite anyway. Although Jaejoong has maintained his image of being a singer, this will be his first time acting in a drama. Because of this, he is actually very nervous.

August 3rd will mark the debut of Jaejoong as a 2nd generation businessman, Cha Muwon, in the drama “Protect the Boss”. Although Jaejoong has acted in the telecinema “Heaven’s Postman” and in the Japanese drama, “Sunao Ni Narenakute,” since this will be his first Korean drama, this can still be seen as his first time acting in a drama.

Jaejoong stated, “During the JYJ World Tour, I was reading the script for this drama and I thought it was hilarious. The writers have taken a normally serious business setting and turned it into something very fun. I also like the fact that each character seems to have their own role that breathes life into the drama.”

“Protect the Boss” is a romantic comedy that centers around the protagonist, Eunsul, played by actress Choi Kanghee, who is a freeloader that begins to work in the business industry with hilarity ensuing. Jaejoong’s role of Cha Muwon is a bit foolish but is also a “chadonam” (cold and chic city guy). This character is someone who may have the same qualities as Joowon from “Secret Garden” and Dok Gojin from “The Greatest Love”. For this reason, Jaejoong purposely did not watch those two dramas. Instead of watching those dramas, Jaejoong ended up watching the movie “Mutt Boy” many times. After watching veteran actors like Kim Gabsoo, who is currently acting in the sitcom “All My Love,” Jaejoong thought that would also want to try roles similar to what he saw in the movie.

Although Yoochun is a fellow member of Jaejoong in JYJ, he is still a sunbae in terms of dramas as he has acted in both “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” and “Miss Ripley”. Jaejoong said, “I get lots of questions about whether I will be able to do better than Yoochun. This is, of course, a lot of pressure for me, but Yoochun is my sunbae. When Yoochun was filming for dramas, he had to deal with a ‘death schedule’. Because of this, Yoochun told me, ‘Hyung, it’s your turn to die’.”

Kim Jaejoong has also shown his abilities in being a director. In the recent JYJ World Tour Concert 2011 and Son Yeonjae’s (the female gymnast) rhythm gymnastics show, Jaejoong showed his abilities in directing to everyone. Because he was also a singer who would be performing on the stage that he was directing for, he was able to think of many ideas for the performance.

Although there have been many opportunities for Jaejoong to show off his abilities in many different areas, he still feels sad. This sadness is also felt by his other JYJ members. This is because they are not able to promote their songs freely as other singers do.

Jaejoong stated, “Although we have lots of issues with our activities as a singer, we have tried to accept and deal with these problems. Luckily, we have been trying other fields, like acting and musicals, and we are able to learn a lot from these experiences. I believe that it is very fun to find where my talents lie as I go through life. Even if it’s a small thing, if I am able to find the joy in it, I can make other people watching happy as well.

110720 “It Was Impossible For JYJ To Appear”… Because Of Their Lawsuit With SM

KBS said, “It will be difficult for JYJ to partake in any non-individual activities until their lawsuit is over.”
This means that there will be close to no chance for JYJ to appear on KBS until their legal suit with SM Entertainment is over.

Meeting with Sports Seoul, a representative of KBS stated, “It will be difficult for JYJ to appear on KBS until the lawsuit with SM Entertainment is over.”

This statement came regarding the fact that JYJ were suddenly unable to perform at the ‘Jeju 7 Natural Wonders of the World Nomination KBS Special Program’ that was held on the 20th. JYJ were schedule to perform two songs for their stage but JYJ’s agency C-JeS Entertainment revealed on the 17th that, “We received a one-sided notification of cancellation four days before the performance.”

C-JeS Entertainment stated, “We received the statement ‘If JYJ perform, it might be impossible for the show to be aired.’” Therefore, an ‘external pressure’ controversy arose that KBS is blocking JYJ from appearing on broadcasted shows. As the representative stated that it will be hard for JYJ to appear on KBS until the end of the lawsuit, the external pressure rumor seems to be somewhat true.

This representative also added, “But JYJ are able to partake in individual activities on KBS,” and “Park Yoochun appeared in the drama ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’, didn’t he?”

However, there have been instances in which their individual activities have been restricted by KBS. Park Yoochun was chosen to appear on KBS 2TV’s ‘Kim Seung Woo’s On A Roll’ with actor Kim Kap Soo early this year but received a notification of cancellation the day before filming was to take place. The representative explained, “I’m sure it was JYJ who were asked to appear on the show, not just Park Yoochun alone.”

But when Sports Seoul contacted ‘Kim Seung Woo’s On A Roll’, the representative who answered the phone stated, “Park Yoochun was invited as he got to know Kim Kap Soo from ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’,” and “There was no reason for JYJ to appear together.”

JYJ’s fans have opened up a petition that calls for an official statement from KBS, KBS Jeju and the other sponsors in charge of the performance. They wish for these sponsors to give an exact reason and an official apology to JYJ.

110720 JYJ’s KBS Cancellation Has Damaged Korea’s Image? International Fans Say, “We Won’t Buy Korean Products”

A controversy is expanding at a rapid rate as KBS yet again cancelled JYJ’s upcoming performance. Domestic fans have more to worry about than just that as international fans began criticizing Korea’s image, broadcasting system and Jeju Island.

JYJ’s performance on KBS’ ‘Jeju 7 Natural Wonders of the World Nomination Special Program’ was suddenly cancelled. Not only this, but the controversy deepened when girl groups from SM Entertainment, Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun and Kim Junsu’s former agency, replaced JYJ. According to JYJ’s agency, KBS never stated a specific reason as to why JYJ were being pulled out of the performance.

KBS, who posted on their viewers’ thread that it would be impossible to allow JYJ to appear on its entertainment programs due to the group’s lawsuit with SM Entertainment in May, has come up to the chopping block once more.

Amidst all of this, posts made by international fans on various domestic portal sites are becoming a hot topic. Most of these fans stated that they began to love Korea because of JYJ and were now thoroughly disappointed by the current situation.

One Egyptian fan stated, “I came to love Korea because of JYJ and I even bought Korean products when I wanted electronic goods,” and “But now I only love JYJ, I don’t love Korea. The fact that JYJ are being treated unfairly because of a greater force is driving me crazy with anger.” A netizen who said she was Australian said, “After I became a fan of JYJ, I began learning lots of things about Korea and I fell for its charm,” and “But because of this event, international fans are worried that there are irrational evils within the Korean entertainment industry and we are enraged. I won’t buy Korean products.”

Fans from other parts of the world criticized the recent event with slightly harsh words as they said, “I was planning on visiting Jeju Island but I will never go anymore” and “How cheap is Korea’s image right now?” Domestic netizens and JYJ fans who saw these reactions are now very worried.

Netizens who read such posts stated, “I’m embarrassed. I don’t particularly like or pay attention to JYJ, but seeing these posts so often makes me feel embarrassed”, “KBS is ruining Korea’s image”, and “Hallyu is a form of cultural diplomacy but who cares if our diplomacy is great when our image is being damaged from the inside?

Domestic fans are having the same thoughts. One domestic fan expressed her fears as she said, “As international fans began to like Korea because of JYJ, I worry that they will start hating Korea because of this JYJ situation,” and “I find myself unable to say anything to them, except to hope that they don’t start hating everything about Korea.” Another domestic fan exclaimed, “The international fans know everything that is going on domestically. They’ve had to cancel of their flight and hotel reservations that they had made to watch JYJ perform. Not only did KBS miss out on a chance to bring in foreign money, but they’re also a disgrace to Korea.

Through this situation, not only has KBS damaged its own reputation, but that of Korea as well in the eyes of international fans. Regarding this, KBS stated, “It is our right to choose who performs,” and “We are planning on releasing our official statement once the concert ends on the 20th.”
