110718 Has JYJ Became The Symbol Of Injustice?‏

Before the commence of JYJ’s topic, there are a few preconditional claims that have to be announced. This is because although the topic that I want to discuss starts with JYJ but the gist of the whole topic is not just about JYJ.

(JaeTime’s T/N: It meant that the discussion and thoughts from the commotion with regards to Korean entertainment agencies and unfair law judgment through the regrouping of JYJ and the lawsuit dispute.)

Preconditional Claim 1: JYJ are idols
JYJ is a new group formed comprising of TVXQ’s Xiah Junsu, Micky Yoochun and Hero Jaejoong, who left the group. TVXQ has attained the highest spot in the idol industry. This is a status achieved by all members of TVXQ and as an idol, they have their significance and their appearance would meant a significant meaning. Of course at the same time where they have their group of loyal fans, anti-fans would be present as well.

Therefore upon any appearance of JYJ-relevant topics, the personal judgement of the issue, fans’ and bystanders’ views have to be clearly differentiated. I do not want to simply discuss about JYJ but to direct at the things happening right now and to talk about my views. Therefore before the beginning of discussion of this issue, We have to understand the slight bias that is present in the term ‘idol’.

Preconditional Claim 2: JYJ are wealthy
JYJ have accumulated lots of wealth. This can be known from the assets that were pronounced in news articles. But the main point of the problem is the unfair contract lawsuit between them and SM. Many people think that given the enormous wealth that JYJ had gotten yet the decision to sue the company was nothing different from being a ungrateful betrayer, with the lack of appreciation towards the company’s initial training for them and instead sarcastically said that themselves are slaves. Whether the truth to this is such, I am not in the position to say anything. But this issue is simple, whether their contract is justifiable or not, the court has its judgment. How much has the trio earned as members of TVXQ, there is no way to certify it now. Stealing 50 thousand away from 100 thousand is the same nature as stealing 50 thousand from 1 million. Because to someone who have earned 1 million, losing that 50 thousand, he would still feel unease.

Thus with these two preconditional claims, no matter they are wealthy people or betrayers, there are no basis. “How will the law be judging it?” This is the most important. Therefore before any conclusion is out, there should not be any clear judgment passed on them. Be it from ethical or law point of view, there are a lot of injustice towards the current JYJ. The weirdest that happened in JYJ’s activities was the unability to appear in news articles, television dramas and not able to participate in variety programmes, in addition to the frequent “sudden cancellation without a reason” incidents. The trio of JYJ recorded QTV’s programme in 24 hours and in the end this programme was unable to be broadcasted by QTV itself. Park Yoochun, who was supposed to attend KBS’s Win Win was canceled, together with this time’s “sudden cancellation” of Jeju island promotional performance even though the receipt of the cue sheet.
Not only such, on normal circumstances when a new drama is due to be broadcasted, the cast of the drama would appear in many variety shows for promotional purposes. But in ‘Miss Ripley’ situation, there are no interview of production company’s press conference from the start, and no appearance of the cast appearing on variety shows such as ‘Come To Play’.

Appearing in drama and news but nowhere to be seen in the entertainment circle, this is obviously an incomprehensible issue. Of course there would be such a situation where fans would express that it is the doing of a certain agency preventing the broadcast, but as the “agency” did not reveal anything, there would not be thoughts of accusations or suspect of the certain agency.

On the contrary, I think the problem lies with the broadcasting company. Because the television company or the news agency would invite guests to make their programmes more interesting. As for drama, the cast’s participation in variety shows would definitely allow the drama to be sold overseas with a higher price.

But the situation of Jeju’s promotional performance is completely different. With them being appointed as ambassadors, they have greatly influenced the promotional effects but was yet omitted in performance. The sudden cancellation was incomprehensible, especially when the schedule was already confirmed. There are lots of overseas fans who have planned to fly over to Korea for this public performance and this has worsen the problem. It feels so regretful especially when this happened in national-managed broadcasting company KBS.

Pre-appointed ambassadors scheduled performance was yet suddenly canceled without any special reason, this is obviously an injustice issue. Gaining the promotional effects and omitting them in the end, this shows the vile side of the establishment. This has to be brought up together with the harm inflicted to many fans. This is not what a national-managed television company should do.

The invisible backdoor pressure rumours were unbelievable. It is obvious that there is special reason and this reason have caused the cancellation. Before any judgment by the court is passed, there should not be any obstruction to their entertainment activities. Korea is a lawful country. In Korea, it is unimaginable to know of power who disregard law and there are no way to confirm if such power existed. If they say that there are not outside pressure, then wouldn’t it be impossible to stop the broadcasting based on one’s effort?
Therefore I hoped that KBS television company will give a proper explanation to this sudden cancellation of JYJ’s broadcasting. What is the exact reason for canceling JYJ’s broadcast. I hoped to receive a convincible reason.

Hopefully KBS can relay to the public the message that “Republic of Korea is a lawful society and there are no injustice.” If KBS’s reason is not convincible, that would be very regretful, very pitiful. This proves that under the law of our Republic of Korea, there are still certain power existing or that KBS has to depend on certain establishment’s power to produce programmes. If it is really so, then undoubtedly, JYJ has bear the injustice sacrifice and they have became the symbol of injustice.

110623 Yoochun’s ‘Miss Ripley’ And Changmin’s ‘Come To Play’ Were Filmed At The Same Time In The Same Building

JYJ’s Park Yoochun and TVXQ’s Choikang Changmin kept MBC’s staff on their toes as they filmed for their respective shows on the same day and time with just one wall separating them.

On the 22nd, Park Yoochun filmed for ‘Miss Ripley’ on set at the MBC Dream Center in Ilsan,
Gyeonggi-do. He was following a rigorous schedule of filming for the drama in the morning in the MBC building and heading out in the afternoon to film in Gangnam.

Next to the indoor set of ‘Miss Ripley’ was the set of MBC’s ‘Come to Play’. On this day, many SM Entertainment singers were present after completing their ‘SM TOWN Live Tour in Paris’ performance in Paris, France. Choikang Changmin was present to represent TVXQ on ‘Come to Play’.

Fortunately, it was later found that the two did not run into each other due to their busy schedules. But as Park Yoochun and SM Entertainment representatives have not met in public since the 2009 lawsuit, MBC staff later reported that they were unable to hide their nervousness as they were kept on their toes.

Since Park Yoochun began singing as a member of JYJ, he has been unable to appear on variety shows. Though the lead roles of ‘Miss Ripley’ tried to appear on ‘Come to Play’, the plan was canceled due to doubtful reasons. Even ‘Section TV Entertainment News’ has dropped out of publicizing its own broadcasting company’s drama, which has never happened before.

At the press conference of ‘Miss Ripley’, Park Yoochun confessed, “Though I want to appear on variety shows, I keep getting ‘cut’.”

A representative of ‘Miss Ripley’ stated, “Park Yoochun was supposed to head over to Gangnam to film in the afternoon but filming was delayed, meaning that Park Yoochun was still in Ilsan when ‘Come to Play’ was being filmed,” and “Though the relationship between Park Yoochun and the company(SM Entertainment) may be strained, he is not on bad terms with the members so I don’t think he minded that much.”

T/N: The translator would like to remind readers that the word choice used in this article is not her own, but of the reporter who wrote the original article. I don’t think ‘Fortunately’ is the word that should be used to state the fact that the two did not meet (in public…. *crosses fingers*).

110518 ‘Even Ignored By Section TV’ … The Wall Surrounding Variety Shows That Park Yoochun Couldn’t Climb

In the end, JYJ’s Park Yoochun(24) was unable to traverse the mighty wall that surrounds MBC variety shows.

Following the cancellation of Park Yoochun’s appearance on the MBC variety program ‘Come to Play’, he has also been excluded from the program list of ‘Section TV Entertainment News’. ‘Section TV Entertainment News’ is MBC’s representative entertainment news program.

Though domestic and overseas media crews flocked to the Banyan Tree Club for the ‘Ripley’ press conference on the 17th, reporters from ‘Section TV Entertainment News’ were not seen on location. The program has always attended the press conferences for all the dramas of its broadcasting company in the past.

Regarding this, a representative of ‘Section TV Entertainment News’ did not say much on the issue as he commented, “We had too many items to cover,” many representatives of the entertainment industry are speculating that the MBC variety sector is buckling under the pressure of SM Entertainment due to JYJ Park Yoochun’s uncomfortable relationship with the agency.

One drama representative stated, “This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. The cast requested an appearance on ‘Come To Play’ through the drama sector for weeks and even aligned the schedules of the actors so that they could all appear, but the scheduled filming was suddenly cancelled. ‘Section TV Entertainment News’ failed to cover the shooting of the ‘Ripley’ poster and now it has even excluded the press conference from coverage.”

PD Choi Lee Seop of ‘Ripley’ raised his voice on the issue and said, “The director of the drama sector himself asked the director of the variety sector to cover ‘Ripley’ to publicize the drama, and the variety sector agreed to do so. But due to inexplicable reasons, the press conference has been excluded from the show’s coverage. This is unacceptable.

110518 MBC Entertainment continues to keep “Ripley” away

JYJ’s Park Yoochun couldn’t overcome the barrier imposed by MBC Entertainment.

The network’s entertainment news program, “Section TV Entertainment News” has been revealed to have also snubbed coverage of Yoochun’s new drama, “Ripley“, right after they cancelled his appearance on the variety show, “Come To Play” not too long ago.
On May 17th, reporters and members of the press gathered at the production conference for “Ripley”. However, reporters from “Section TV Entertainment News” did not appear, which is highly unusual since this news program always appears at drama production conferences.
A representative from the program stated, “We had too many items on our hands“, but members in the entertainment industry are accusing MBC Entertainment for minding the uncomfortable relationship between Yoochun and SM Entertainment.

Ripley’s representative stated, “This is not the first time. ‘Come To Play’ had requested the appearance of our actors for weeks and we finalized the schedules of the actors when the filming suddenly got cancelled. ‘Section TV Entertainment News’ has also excluded coverage from our poster shooting as well as from our production conference.”

The main producer for the drama, Choi Yi Sup, voiced his concern and frustration by saying, “The director of the drama department directly requested coverage for ‘Ripley’s promotions to the entertainment director and the entertainment department accepted this request. However, due to an unrevealed reason the coverage was excluded. This is unacceptable.”

Park Yoochun showed his disappointment by saying, “I, too, want to appear on variety programs but they keep ‘cutting’ me out. I’m not trying to put a great significance on it.”

“Ripley” will communicate the ideas of obsession and desire through a female character who gets a job at a hotel by faking her education record. The first episode is set to air on May 30th.

110505 Enraged PD Says, “If There Was External Pressure, We Wouldn’t Have Called Park Yoochun From The Start”

A shockwave spread through the industry when it was found that a string of Park Yoochun’s TV appearances were canceled. Many have voiced the opinion that the broadcasting companies are buckling under external pressure, and the production crews have stepped forth to give their clarifications.

It was revealed recently that not only was Park Yoochun, as well as his fellow leading actors of MBC’s new Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Ripley’, denied an appearance on MBC’s ‘Come To Play’, but his appearance on KBS 2TV’s ‘On A Roll’ was also canceled. Regarding this issue, a representative of the broadcasting industry even cautiously voiced the opinion, “It seems that someone is trying to hinder JYJ’s activities in the entertainment industry.”

But Yoon Hyung Joon, PD of ‘On A Roll’, refuted all claims of external pressure on the program canceling Park Yoochun’s appearance. On May 4th, PD Yoon stated, “It’s ridiculous that people believe Park Yoochun was unable to appear as Kim Kap Soo’s surprise guest because of external pressure. The rumors are completely and utterly false.

He also stressed, “If there was any external pressure, we wouldn’t have called him from the start to ask him to appear on the show,” and “PDs have the authority over recruiting guests. It’s a bit extreme to say that we were pressured into canceling on him.”

A representative of ‘Come To Play’ also refuted rumors of external pressure when he said, ‘It’s true that the ‘Ripley’ team wanted to appear on the show, but we simply chose a better episode plan, that’s all.”
Some are saying, “Because the general consensus of the public is being steered towards blaming JYJ’s inability to appear on TV shows on external pressure, there are people who are spreading baseless rumors on the existence of such issues and making it worse.”

110503 JYJ’s Yoochun – Appearance On “Seung Seung Jang Gu” Cancelled Also?

Regarding the controversy of the cancellation of group JYJ’s Park Yoochun and MBC’s new drama “Ripley”‘s lead actors appearance on t.v. program “Come to Play”, greater controversy has resulted from the fact that Park Yoochun had previously been rejected from appearing in KBS program “Seung Seung Jang Gu” also.

At the time, Park Yoochun was supposed to appear on the episode of “Seung Seung Jang Gu” that was featuring actor Kim Gapsu as a guest, and was chosen to appear in the “guest that arrived in secret corner” of the episode.

However on the day before recording of the episode, KBS delivered a sudden notification that his appearance on the show would not be possible. This information was reported to Kim San Woo and other actors of the drama and also to Kim Gapsu on the morning of the recording day.

Previous to this incident, a similar incident swelled with MBC’s entertainment program. MBC’s mini series on Mondays and Tuesdays for the actors of the drama “Ripley” on “Come to Play” ended in failure, and it has been said that these are further restrictions that have been made on Park Yoochun’s activities through external pressures.

Netizens who came across this information reacted by saying, “Because of the external pressures from all these companies, are all appearances by particular artists going to end in failure?” “Something suspicious is going on..” and has led to other negative reactions.

110503 Is Ripley’s Park Yoochun On The Blacklist Of MBC Variety Programs?

Much attention is currently focused on the fact that the appearance of the cast of MBC’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Ripley’, which includes JYJ’s Park Yoochun, on MBC’s variety shows has fallen through.

According to a broadcasting company representative, the leading roles of Ripley, Park Yoochun, Lee Da Hae, Kang Hae Jung and Kim Seung Woo, had been attempting to schedule an appearance on the MBC variety show ‘Come To Play’ since the end of April in order to promote their new drama but were unsuccessful.

‘Come To Play’ stated that the chances of all four leading roles appearing on the show would be slim as Kim Seung Woo currently works as an MC for ‘On A Roll (SeungSeungJangGu)’, a TV show of MBC’s rival broadcasting company KBS.

However, after the team went through great troubles to confirm Kim Seung Woo’s appearance on the show, ‘Come To Play’ suggested that the three leading roles excluding Park Yoochun appear on the show, leading to the cancellation of the plan.S

Even ‘Section TV Entertainment News’, MBC’s entertainment news program, cancelled its interview with the cast of ‘Ripley’ at the drama’s poster-shoot which took place on the 29th. The team from the ‘Entertainment Plus’ section of MBC’s ‘Good Day’ was present on location to interview the cast members but ‘Good Day’ is considered an educational program.

Usually, entertainment news programs visit the poster-shoot location of their respective broadcasting companies’ dramas in order to hold interviews and promote these upcoming attractions. Speculations escalated as it was found that ‘Section TV Entertainment News’ had scheduled an interview with the ‘Ripley’ cast, only to suddenly cancel the plans later on.

Regarding this, a representative of ‘Section TV Entertainment News’ did not say much as he said, “It was because there were too many items to present that day.” But rumors are spreading that the MBC Variety Program sector has buckled under the pressure from SM Entertainment. A PD, who asked to be anonymous, sighed and said, “You all know what’s going on so why do you even bother asking? It feels like we’re treading on glass because of the situation.”

Even when Park Yoochun appeared on the hit KBS drama ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’, he didn’t appear on any KBS variety programs. Though he has appeared on countless news reports and current affairs programs since his dispute with his agency, he has been unable to cross over the wall that surrounds the nation’s variety programs.

110503 ‘Ripley’ Cast’s Appearance On ‘Come To Play’ Falls Through.. “Why?”

The appearance of the cast of Ripley, MBC’s new Monday-Tuesday drama which Park Yoochun plays a leading role in, on MBC’s ‘Come To Play’ has fallen through and many are curious to know the reason behind it.

According to a broadcasting company representative on the 3rd, Kim Seung Woo, Kang Hae Jung, Lee Da Hae and Park Yoochun, the leading roles of the drama, recently sought out an appearance on ‘Come To Play’ to promote their drama but the plan fell through. This brought about speculations that the appearance fell through because of Park Yoochun, who is currently locked in a dispute with SM Entertainment.

Though Park Yoochun appeared as the leading role in KBS 2TV’s ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ last year, he was not seen on any KBS variety shows. Therefore, many believe that the ‘Ripley’ team’s inability to appear on ‘Come To Play’ may be related to this.

Regarding the controversy surrounding the ‘Ripley’ cast and Park Yoochun, a production representative of ‘Come To Play’ stated, “The cast of ‘Ripley’ did attempt to appear on ‘Come To Play’ but we have decided to drop the idea,” and “In the case of dramas like ‘Ripley’, the ‘Come To Play’ episode would have to air before the drama begins airing, but because the filming schedule for the cast is already packed, we had trouble adjusting the schedule to find a time that suited everyone.”

He continued to add, “This has nothing to do with Park Yoochun. We are being suspected by many for something that is not true because Park Yoochun just happens to be a member of the Ripley cast

(T/N: The term he uses is 오비이락 which means “A pear drops as soon as a crow flies from the tree.”).”

On the other hand, a representative of Curtain Call Media, the drama’s production company, gave schedule adjustments as the reason behind the issue and said, “We were not able to attend the filming of ‘Come To Play’ because of Park Yoochun’s World Tour schedule. From what I know, the drama’s schedule frequently overlaps with his Asia Tour,” and “It was difficult trying to adjust the schedules.”
A representative of Park Yoochun’s agency stated, “It’s true that Park Yoochun is busy because of his ‘World Tour’ schedule,” and “But we never heard anything about dates for the filming of ‘Come To Play’.
