On the 25th, SBS’ E!TV ‘StarQ10′ made an investigation into TVXQ’s unusual Guinness World records as well as their overseas activities.

In 2008, TVXQ won the Guinness World Record for the biggest fanclub in the world and in 2009, they won the record for being the most photographed celebrities in the world with over 500 million photos taken of them.

During their Japanese tour, they set a record by selling out their tickets in a mere second. They surprised everyone when it was found that they were so active overseas in 2004 that they traveled the equivalent of 80 trips around the world.

TVXQ even proved their popularity in China when they received 136,031,908 votes in a popularity vote on a Chinese site. A Russian figure skater (Ilia Kulik) even used one of TVXQ’s songs for his gala show.

110517 The Empty Space Left Behind By The Mighty TVXQ Is Too Big To Fill… SM’s Performance ‘Plummets’

It has been found that the stocks of the listed entertainment management enterprise SM did worse in the first quarter of this year than last year with a sudden 6~8% drop.

Much attention has been drawn to this issue as some are speculating that this drop in SM’s business showings since last year is a result of the reduced number of activities by ‘TVXQ’, who acted as SM’s cash cow.

TVXQ was most active in Japan in May~June, 2009, resulting in a higher amount of income. This income then went through a ‘division of income’ process (approximately 6 months) with the Japanese agency and was mostly added to the first quarter of last year, which explains why the results for this year’s first quarter are so low.

YoungWoong Jaejoong, Xiah Junsu and Micky Yoochun, no longer a part of the team after filing a lawsuit against their agency due to problems with their exclusive contract, have now formed the group ‘JYJ’ and those remaining, U-Know Yunho and Choikang Changmin, have decided to continue their activities under the name TVXQ.

SM released their quarterly report on the 16th which stated that the enterprise’s first quarter net sales, business profits and net profits were 19.3 billion Won, 2.3 billion Won and 1 billion Won respectively. Last year’s first quarter net sales, business profits and net profits were 22.6 billion Won, 10.2 billion Won and 8.5 billion Won respectively. Their business profits have reduced by 80% in a matter of one year.

Analyst Lee Sang Hyun of Hi Investment Bonds said, “In the case of SM, an enterprise in the entertainment management industry, there is no need for ‘an alternation of joy and grief’ in their quarterly results,” and “In the case of their Japanese profits, which make up the largest portion of the enterprise’s yearly sales, the profit from the sales of albums and concerts are taken in by SM after an estimated six-month delay according to their contract with their Japanese counterpart.”

He continued to say, “It is true that SM’s first quarter results have significantly reduced relative to last year due to the fact that the profits from TVXQ’s activities two years ago contributed to last year’s first quarter results,” and “But Girls’ Generation have released their ‘Mr. Taxi’ album last month and are scheduled to perform in four cities while SHINee are experiencing high popularity and interest as well, meaning that we can expect a visible improvement in the near future.”

SHINee’s ‘Replay’ album, set to release on June 22nd in Japan, has already become the most reserved album on online sites such as HMV and Tower Records.

The analyst also added, “Of the 10 billion Won that SM earned in net profits in the first quarter of 2010, approximately 8 billion Won came from net profits earned by TVXQ which shows that Japanese sales have a great impact on SM’s net profits,” and “As the influence of K-POP strengthens in Japan, Girls’ Generation has begun their activities in Japan, meaning that we can expect a visible improvement in the near future.”

He also said, “The second quarter will be better than the first quarter, and the second half of the year will see an increase in overseas royalties.”

110415 JYJ’s Kim Jaejoong Says, “I Learned Of Taking Things Slow And The Power Of Time”

It is sometimes cruel to be placed at crossroads and told to choose. For we will gain things but also lose things. It is not an easy task to state and differentiate between the pros and cons of choices because there is no standard to compare your choice with and because the tables may turn in an instant.

JYJ’s Kim Jaejoong, who recently stood at one of the most important crossroads in his life, didn’t say much at first and gave a relaxed smile for a while. He finally opened his mouth to speak when we asked him, ‘Are you content with your life right now?’. His answer was short and precise. “I’ve finally realized just how good it feels to be free.” But it took him over a year to find his balance once more; now, he remains unshaken even when his surroundings suddenly shift. It is because he has learned to accept reality and feel joy in the smallest things.

“I don’t feel uncomfortable talking about my past. That’s why I’m able to write ‘JYJ from 東方神起’ in my Twitter profile and it’s also why my phone’s start-up screen is a picture of TVXQ.”

Kim Jaejoong was confident about one thing, that “We will all be together one day.” Regarding the uncertain future, he believes that, “Time will heal all.” A year ago, he was so confused about his life that he had to take it one day at a time. He couldn’t make himself believe that he would be able to enjoy every day of his life or that he would be able to try anything he wanted to. He was able to feel a great sense of accomplishment from being the director of JYJ’s World Tour, which began in Thailand on the 2nd and 3rd of this month. He has now begun to dream a new dream.

“I want to try acting in a drama or a musical.” Kim Jaejoong’s new dream is to act and that is one thing that his fans are dying to hear news about. The project that C-JeS Entertainment has been preparing for a long time is Kim Jaejoong’s debut into the Korean drama industry. His name has been mentioned many times during the casting of dramas such as <Goddess of War:Athena> and <HanBanDo>.

“Our management company suggested several big projects to me. They would place the documents in front of me and say ‘Kim Jaejoong, we’ve prepared this just for you.’ Some were really good and some were too much for me to handle. He is trying to not rush into things these days. Though all the dramas that were suggested to him were large-scale productions, he just wants to act in a drama that fits him well, regardless of its scale. He knows so well that appearing in a large-scale drama or taking on an extravagant role isn’t what it takes to repay his fans for waiting so long without disappointing them. He believes that even if he receives a small role, he must become immersed in his character and give an amazing performance. He said, “I’m undecided because I’ve received so many offers.”

Exactly one week after the interview was held, Kim Jaejoong uploaded a photo onto his personal Twitter account. It was a picture of his fellow members Kim Junsu and Park Yoochun joking around and grabbing each other by the collar, as if they were fighting. He uploaded the photo with a couple of captions, “How happy I am!” and “They get along so well that it’s becoming a problem!” The words he had said during his interview popped into my head as I saw his tweets.

“I wonder if there was ever a time when I laughed as much and as comfortably as I do now. Everytime I see Junsu and Yoochun and think that it’s only the three of us, my heart jolts. I often feel happy that we are together and that we are making things happen with what we’ve got. I’m glad that fans are beginning to realize this though they were worried at first. Though we know what their worries are, I just want them to watch over us. We’ve held on so far. I always have and always will believe in the power of time.“

Recently, an online forum displayed a picture of JYJ member Park Yoochun and TVXQ member U-Know Yunho standing side by side, attracting a lot of attention.

The photo shows the respective singers’ clothing endorsement advertisements fitted according to the elevator doors. The two blown up ads standing in line with only a wall as a barrier created a very interesting atmosphere for people walking by.

110316 JYJ Park Yoochun to Star in MBC Drama ‘Goodbye Miss Ripley’

JYJ Park Yoochun has been confirmed to cast in MBC new drama.

According to MBC drama official on March 16th, Park Yoochun will star in MBC upcoming drama ‘Goodbye Miss Ripley’, the actor had visited the filming location in Fukuoka, Japan with his representative to confirm his casting and actively participated in script reading practice on the same day, Park Yoochun is scheduled to join the drama filming soon.

After his withdrawal from TVXQ, this would be the first time for Park Yoochun to cast in MBC drama thus attracted lot of attention. In fact, none of JYJ members including Kim Jaejoong and Kim Junsu have ever appeared in MBC entertainment programs (ever since the withdrawal).

Park Yoochun had his acting debut last year through KBS 2TV drama ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ and received rave reviews with his character Lee Seon-jun, he’s said to receive countless love call to star in various dramas ever since.

110315 4th Trial Of SM Vs JYJ.. SM Treasurer Appears As A Witness

The fourth trial of the lawsuit between JYJ and SM Entertainment took place on the 15th.

Last April, SM filed an exclusive contract validity verification and compensation for losses lawsuit against the trio to which the trio filed an exclusive contract invalidity verfication and unjust profit restitution counter-lawsuit against SM. On the 15th, the two sides held a hearing.

The trial that was held this day included an examination of a witness, Mr Yoon, who was in charge of handling TVXQ’s income and accounts in SM Entertainment.

At the trial, Mr Yoon stated, “SM artistes settle their accounts twice a year for the income from overseas and domestic activities and album sales. Before the accounts are settled and the artistes are paid, the celebrity, his or her manager, the treasurer and his or her parents get together, make sure that the income division is done exactly according to the contract and sign a paper stating that the correct income division was carried out. This information is also looked over by an accounting firm.”

He continued to state that TVXQ’s income division was done through a legal and just process as he said, “The trio have never voiced a complaint about the income division till now. The income division has always been done according to the contract with consent from the trio, and we have never omitted any profits or expenses.”

Also, Mr. Yoon explained the process behind TVXQ’s income division as well as the members’ expenses, income and salary received in advance. He also gave thorough answers to the questions given by the lawyers of SM and the trio regarding album sales and royalties.

The trio did not attend the trial. The next trial will be held on April 19th at the same location and the Courts are planning to hold an examination on another witness, Nam So Young, the CEO of SM Japan who was in charge of TVXQ’s Japanese activities.

Today SM’s finance person appeared in court.

Said at court that 2008 SM’s net profit was 14.7 billion KRW, and out of that 1 billion was earned by TVXQ.

JYJ lawyer asked: then who earned rest of the money?

Finance person said: “It’s earned by BoA, CSJH, Ara, TRAX!”

Then JYJ’s lawyer asked: “So you are saying, they earn more money?”

Finance person couldn’t say anything in response.

2004 HUG album, SM only calculated March and April sales for the 5 of them, after that none of the sales were calculated for them.

In other worlds, all the details of album sales after April, there’s nothing.

The SM side said that MIROTIC sold 480,000 copies, while SM claimed the boys would be paid 5 million only after the sales reached 500,000, so the members didn’t get their pay. Yet the trio side proved evidences that MIROTIC was actually sold 540,000 copies, still SM argued, they didn’t give the pay because TVXQ didn’t come out with a next album…

When SM said this, the court cut them off saying this could not be accepted.

Then the court says, if SM does not provide relevant documents, then the court will order it.

In other worlds, SM continues to not give the relevant documents, so the court wants to use force to gather the documents.

Said 2008 digital album sales would give them 10% of the income distribution, but in 2009, they didn’t even include it in the income distribution.

Also, MV, Dancer’s expenses were all paid by TVXQ.

Their world tour earned 3,400,000,000 (3.4 billion), out of that money, they only gave TVXQ 900,000,000, and then said this was SM’s expenses organizing the event, so it was then deducted (the entire 900,000,000).

Next court date is set for April 19th, at 2PM.

JYJ’s rejection to appearance request on KBS Cool FM ‘Yoo Hee Yeol’s Radio Paradise’ sparks another public controversies.

On March 9th at dawn ‘Radio Heaven’ PD held a TVXQ & JYJ special airing during the radio’s program ‘Midnight Restaurant’. Yoon Sang-hyun PD said, “These days some people keep talking about TVXQ which builds JYJ fans while the opposite party also claim that it’s JYJ who builds TVXQ fans, there was a strange atmosphere exists. Therefore on today’s ‘Midnight Restaurant’ let’s decorate the show by listening alternately to the songs between the two teams TVXQ and JYJ.”

During the broadcast Yoon Sang-hyun PD revealed, “‘Radio Heaven’ has made phonecalls with JYJ manager a few times to talk about broadcast instructions for regular appearance, yet in the end they couldn’t make it.” arousing the curiosity of JYJ’s fans.

Currently JYJ is not in the situation where they can have group activities broadcast smoothly. Earlier this year JYJ was dipped into another controversy when their scheduled reality show program that was about to air in cable channel QTV was put to a halt. 'TVXQ Trio' JYJ's TV Appearance Falls Through.. Why?

It has been found that TVXQ's Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun and Kim Junsu (JYJ) attempted to appear on TV but it fell through in the end.

According to a representative in the Kpop industry, JYJ were nominated to perform a celebratory number at 'The 31st Blue Dragon Film Awards' that was aired on November 26th on KBS 2TV. For this, their KBS Kpop review was quickly done a week before the awards ceremony.

Usually, the review is done even before the album is released, but for JYJ, their review was done one month after their 'The Beginning' album was released in October. It has been confirmed that a total of seven songs, including JYJ's title song 'Empty', were deemed suitable for airing according to the results published on November 24th after the KBS Kpop review.

However, JYJ's appearance fell through. This seems to be because of JYJ's legal dispute with SM Entertainment. Furthermore, an extreme amount of pressure would have been placed on KBS if they had allowed JYJ to perform as pop culture-related associations are siding against JYJ, such as the Korean Federation of Pop Culture and Art Industry that sent out an official document to broadcasting and cable companies, as well as music distribution companies, demanding that JYJ's activities be restricted.

However, the 'Blue Dragon Film Awards' was not the only event where this happened. Even though it is now almost two months since JYJ's album release, we still cannot hear their music on TV or the radio. This has occurred though there have been many netizens asking radio stations to turn JYJ's music on as they have yet to hear these songs anywhere though the album has been released.

One Kpop representative stated, "If JYJ does not solve their dispute with SM, they will be faced with many more obstacles in the future if they wish to continue to sing," and "There are many producers who have raised their voices stating that regulations on activities must become more strict so that something like this does not happen again."

JYJ filed an exclusive contract suspension injunction against SM last July. They began their activities by releasing their first album under the name JYJ and holding showcases, but they have not been able to stand on a TV show's stage in Korea yet.

TVXQ Will Perform in Both Korea and Japan With One Title Track

"Expected To Simultaneously Rank #1 In Both Countries"

TVXQ are planning to perform in both Korea and Japan with the same title track.

TVXQ, now a duo with U-Know Yunho and Choikang Changmin, made an announcement through their official homepage on November 23rd that they will make a comeback next January. Following this, they announceed through their Japanese agency AVEX on December 2nd that they will be releasing a new single on January 26th.

The unknown song they are planning to sing is receiving great attention as TVXQ is planning to perform it in both Korea and Japan at the same time. TVXQ's agency SM Entertainment stated, "TVXQ are planning to perform the same title track in both Korea and Japan in January."

All the SM artistes, including TVXQ, BoA, Super Junior, Girls' Generation, SHINee and f(x), will be holding their Japan leg of the 'SMTOWN LIVE WORLD TOUR' on January 25th and 26th in Tokyo, Japan. Because this overlaps with the release of TVXQ's new single, there is a great possibility that they will be kicking off their activities in Japan at the SM TOWN concert.

On the other hand, TVXQ's Japanese comeback has been met with an explosive response from Japanese fans. On major album sites such as HMV and Tower Records, TVXQ's new single, set to release on January 26th, rose to #1 on the ranking charts as soon as it was released, thus proving their continued popularity in Japan.

Jaejoong Rants About Sasaeng Fans

Social Micro blogging service Twitter is a valuable resource for many fans to follow their favorite celebrities and learn more about them. Recently, JYJ member Jaejoong went on a rant about Sasaeng fans.
For those of you who don’t know what Sasaeng fans are, they’re basically crazed fans who invade the privacy of celebrities. They stalk the celebrities and some go even as far as having access to the idol’s phone number and break into their homes.

To generalize his tweets, he basically talks about suffering for the past 7 years, when trying to meet friends, family, and acquaintances these fans will delay him for 2-3 hours. He also states that over this time, all 5 members have cried in public and had accidents but these Saesang fans in their “taxi’s” would just look at them with smiling faces. Jaejoong also mentions that what’s even worse than Korean Sasaeng fans are oversea foreign fans who pay the Korean fans to rent cars, drive them around and stalk them.

Jaejoong also mentioned that one time he asked Big Bang member G-Dragon if he had to deal with Sataek from Sasaeng fans and G-Dragon replied, “Hyung, what’s Sataek?” (Sataek = Saesang + Taxi)
Quite unfortunate that celebrities have to deal with this, hopefully these fans will realize they’re doing a lot of harm to these celebrities.

Yunho's Bag for KRW1,000,000; TVXQ is Also Exremely Popular in Thailand

TVXQ Yunho's hand-carry bag made the record for the highest bid of KRW1,000,000* at the "Charity Auction by Hallyu Stars for Flood Victims", held in Bangkok, Thailand.

The "Korea Festival" was held from 30 November - 5 December and it is organised by the Thai-Korean Embassy and the Korea Thailand Communication Centre (KTCC), with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand. This auction was organised to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Thai soldiers who fought in the Korean War, as well as give aid to 3,000,000 flood victims.

Cherished items were collected from top Thai stars and popular Hallyu stars like TVXQ, Super Junior, SNSD, Kim Rae Won, Cho Hyunjun and Lee Junki.

The highest amount recorded at the charity auction went to a small hand-carry leather bag and even though there are no special decorations, just by the fact that it had been touched by Yunho's hand, it was sold at the high price of KRW1,000,000.

Lee Yoohyun, the representative for the KTCC, said, "It was an event where the Hallyu stars could confirm the great love from the Thai fans. Simple items like hats and t-shirts were auctioned off at prices ranging from KRW30,000 - KRW1,000,000.

Meanwhile, the items received from 130 Hallyu stars raised KRW24,000,000 in total and items from Art Korea artists by the Korea-Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Thai branch of the Institute for National Unification raised KRW28,000,000. This fund will be passed to the headquarters of the task force for the Thailand flood on 8 December.

2011′s Most Anticipated Korean Dramas : Poseidon is a Must-Watch

Regardless how excited you are about the Korean dramas in 2011, you must add ‘Poseidon’ into your must-watch list. For its production team, it has director Yoo Chul Yong who directed ‘All In’, ‘Sad Love Song’ and other popular korean drama series, the scriptwriter will be Jo Gyoo Won. The story of Poseidon will bring out novelty to the audience.

Hideaki Tokunaga: Jaejoong’s Performance of Rainy Blue is the Most Touching

 

Hideaki Tokunaga during his concert MC section have said “Even though a lot of people have done covers of my songs, but out of all of them Tohoshinki’s Jaejoong’s performance of Rainy Blue makes me feel the most touched. Because of many different reasons right now, it is hard for him to sing in Japan, but I will wait for the day he performs again……”
