110726 JYJ Kim Jaejoong, “I Miss Yunho And Changmin Too!”, Garnering Fans’ Concerns‏

JYJ Kim Jaejoong expressed his feeling of missing for U-know Yunho and Choikang Changmin who have been active together as TVXQ and this garnered fans’ concerns. Kim Jaejoong wrote on his Twitter on the 26th, “I don’t know if I can say such words or not… I miss Yunho and Changmin too.”

Kim Jaejoong, together with Kim Junsu and Park Yoochun, filed a lawsuit against their company SM Entertainment in July 2009 for invalidity towards their exclusive contract and from then on, TVXQ’s activities were halted. The trio formed JYJ and is currently active as one. U-Know Yunho and Choikang Changmin continued their activities as TVXQ and released a new album.

The lawsuit is still in progress and during this period of time, the members who are on different sides have been suppressing their speech on this.

In such circumstances, Kim Jaejoong displayed his deep feelings for the two TVXQ members and the reason behind it attracted attention. Kim Jaejoong said, “No matter what anybody had said, they are my members as I know them better than anybody else. Although I don’t know if people would deemed this as unnecessary talk, it’s been so long and I really miss them.”, expressing his own thoughts.

Kim Jaejoong’s talk on U-Know Yunho and Choikang Changmin was naturally displayed during his talk on other JYJ members.

To this, netizens commented, “Of course (he) will miss (them), and could only miss…”, “TVXQ Forever”, “When you miss them, just say that you miss them. This is good.”

110617 K-Pop Stars Taking Korean Musicals on Asian Tour

Producers are turning to leading K-pop bands and targeting overseas audiences in a bid to reinvigorate Korea’s over-saturated musical market, which is estimated to be worth W250 billion but is feeling the pinch as supply outpaces demand.

Japan, which boasts the largest market for musicals in Asia, is emerging as Korean producers’ prime target as they aim to capitalize on the popularity of K-pop stars in the neighboring country.

Korean girl group Kara saw their latest album shoot to the top of the Oricon Weekly Single Chart in the first week of its release in April. Now the band’s lead singer is ready to flood Japanese senses with her acting and singing talent as she prepares for her musical debut in the country.

“Kara’s leader Park Gyu-lee will star in Osaka from October to November,” Show Note, which produces the musical “200 Pounds Beauty,” announced on Wednesday. This is the first time that a leading star of the Korean Wave will make a musical debut in Japan rather than at home.

“200 Pounds Beauty,” a musical adaptation of the film of the same title, is a romantic comedy that has enjoyed great success since it premiered in 2008. The producers are planning an Asian tour across Japan and China from this fall until spring of next year.

In order to make a significant dent in the Japanese market, however, the producers felt a Korean Wave star was needed, and Kara apparently leapt at the chance to expand her performing repertoire.

Industry figures are now describing the partnership between Korea-produced musicals and Korean Wave stars as a marriage made in heaven, especially given the support that Japanese fans have already shown for both. “200 Pounds Beauty,” starring Jessica from Girls’ Generation, “Goong,” featuring TVXQ’s U-Know Yun-ho, and “Mozart!” in which JYJ’s Kim Jun-su made his musical debut, attracted a great number of Japanese.

Tour operators cottoned onto their success by designing package tours for Japanese tourists with tickets to the musicals. Now Korean musical producers are taking a more aggressive approach by flying the entire cast overseas and using K-pop stars as headliners.

Industry insiders predict this will open up a new market capable of generating more than W50 billion in ticket sales alone, not to mention the profits from derivative items. They arrived at this figure based on the assumption that the market can support 10 major Korean musicals, with each one having a potential stage life in Japan of 50 performances.

When Kim Kyu-jong of SS501 turned up in Kyoto on June 11 to play the main character Lee Shin in “Goong,” the 1,200-capacity theater could barely accommodate all of the screaming female fans who had come to see their “prince charming” in the flesh.

Most were already familiar with the plot, as the original comic book and TV series adaptation were introduced to Japan in 2000 and 2006, respectively, and many had shelled out 13,000 yen for the most expensive tickets.

“It would have been impossible to lure a Japanese audience of this size without having a Korean Wave star,” said a staff member from Group 8, which produced the show.

Kim Kwang-su, who produced the musical “Tears of Heaven,” said Korea’s young stars are leading the charge, and helping fans migrate from one medium to another. “Japan wants Girls’ Generation, Kara, Supernova, TVXQ, and Jang Keun-suk,” he said. “Musicals that are made in Korea lack appeal in the foreign market without the help of Korean Wave stars.”

The changing dynamics of the target audience are already starting to filter down to the way Korean musicals are being designed, insiders claim.

“We are now seeing the emergence of musicals that are being produced and directed with an eye on the Japanese market,” said musical director Yoon Ho-jin.

Others cautioned that an over-reliance on star power will ultimately backfire and weaken the art form itself.
“I feel a sense of disappointment in that the popularity is not a verification of the quality of the musical itself,” said Won Jong-won, a professor of media studies at Soonchunhyang University. “Although it may be harder in the beginning, if producers take a long-term perspective and work more on the quality of the musical, rather than simply relying on a star-studded cast, a bigger market will open up.”

The 7 nominees for the survey were JYJ’s Kim Jaejoong, TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho, Jang Dong Gun, Jisung, Kim Hyun Joong, Jang Geun Seok and Lee Teuk.

110326 Baidutvxq 7th anniversary fangifts

On night of the 14th, meet with Yoochun’s mom, and gave her Yoochun’s gifts. His mom is very kind, very caring for us, asked us a lot of things about baidutuvxq and chinese fans, also talked about how our boys’ thoughts of wanting to go to China again to see everyone, we also hope we can soon see our boys in China. Yoochun’s mom also mentioned after last time’s Shanghai showcase, Yoochun brought home a charity certificate, his mom says Yoochun really treasure it, and purposely showed everyone. When we found out, we were all touched (refers to the donation made on 101023). We told his mom it’s almost baidutvxq’s 7th anniversary, when his mom complimented us on doing so well even with all the obstacles, we wanted to cry T T. When his mom say the gift we prepared for Yoochun, she said Yoochun will like it, and would let Yoochun try it when she gets home. A few days later when we contacted his mom again, she told us Yoochun has been wearing the shoes we gave him as gift for the past few days. It made us really happy.

On the afternoon of the 17th, we meet with Junsu’s mom and chatted a lot with her, his mom is really talkative, and is very kind to us, always smiling with sense of familiarity, and was also very appreciative of Chinese Fans’ support to the boys. We talked with her about the things Chinese fans done for the boys, and told her about the flashmob from last year. When she saw our fan made DVD and Cassiotic’s self recorded CD, she gave a lot of compliments. When we showed her the gifts we prepared for Junsu, his mom said fans really thought carefully, from health to cloth to accessories, everything is well thought of. She said the cloth is Junsu’s style and he will definitely like it. Then we met Junsu’s dad who came to pick Junsu’s mom up to watch Junsu’s musical together, to not delay their schedule, we chatted a little and hugged before parting.

On the night of the 17th, we meet with Jaejoong’s sixth sister, she had a cold but still welcomed us. His sister was really funny, always joking with us, we felt no distance from her, it was very nice. When we gave her Jaejoong’s gifts, she was worried that the measurements are off, because Jaejoong gained a lot of weight recently because of his appetite had been really good ^ ^, but luckily after seeing the clothes, the measurements still fit Jaejoong. She also said, we really are fans, we know what kind of style Jaejoong likes. She said Jaejoong is really busy lately because of the concert, so can’t see him often, but she would try to give our gifts to him as soon as she can, we are really grateful for her for being so considerate T T. Because she wasn’t feeling well, we didn’t want to bother her, we are really thankful for welcoming us so late at night.

There had always been a couple of ways to give the gifts to Yunho and Changmin. We considered giving it to them at fansigning, but because there is a lot of items, we want to make sure they receive all the gifts and feel the love from Chinese fans. We decided to give it to their parents Because Yunho’s parents are not in Seoul, and because of our time and schedule in Korea, we couldn’t give it to them personally, so we decided to give both Yunho and Changmin’s gifts to Changmin’s mom. If time allows, we hope next time we can visit Yunho’s mom and dad.

On the night of the 26th, we meet with Changmin’s mom, but we didn’t think his dad would show up as well. His dad was very open and enthusiastic, and have deep understanding for Chinese culture. This is our second time meeting Changmin’s parents, very grateful that they still remember us, also grateful for their care and concern for us. We told them about our situation, told her about today is baidutvxq’s 7th anniversary, his mom said Chinese fans are very amazing, even thought we can’t see our boys often, but we can still support them so firmly. She also asked us to continue to support us. His mom and dad are very kind people, we are really grateful for their care and encouragement.
