110309 JYJ fans counter group’s suspension with website launch

The group is one of many engaged in a battle with management over controversial exclusive contracts

The Internet broadcasting site “ilovejyj.com” went into operation on Mar. 3. At 8 p.m. that evening, the time of its inaugural broadcast, the server went down, flooded by Internet user connections. Fans of the trio JYJ had come storming in to watch. The inaugural broadcast ended up being pushed back a day, with additional special inaugural broadcasts held on Mar. 5 and 6.

The site began service through the concerted efforts of fans lamenting the fact that JYJ has been unable to appear on terrestrial television networks. Funding and staffing for the site’s inauguration consisted purely of donations by fans. Some seventy fans, including 13 production team members, three video team members, seven web page production staff members, three sound team members, and seven Chinese and Japanese translators, lent their talents for the production.

JYJ is a team formed by Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu, three members of the group TVXQ. In July 2009, the three of them filed a lawsuit to annul their exclusive contract with SM Entertainment. In the process, they publicly disclosed unfair provisions in the contract, including a 13-year term of service and revenue sharing of 0.4 to 1 percent of record sales. In October 2010, they released their first album, “The Beginning.”
Fans, however, were unable to see their faces on terrestrial networks. Yoochun enjoyed skyrocketing popularity last year with his starring role on the KBS miniseries “Sungkyunkwan Scandal,” but was shunned by music video networks and entertainment programs.

An entertainment show producer at one terrestrial network admitted, “Entertainment show producers will not even consider talking to JYJ out of fear that it will spoil their relationship with the big entertainment management agencies.”

On Feb. 21, the 51st civil agreements division of Seoul Central District Court, under Judge Kim Dae-ung, delivered an indirect compulsory performance order ruling that SM Entertainment “is not to disrupt the entertainment activities of JYJ” and that “if it violates this [ruling] it must pay 20 million Won for each violation.”

The situation did not change. A cable network also abruptly canceled its plans for the “JYJ Reality Program,” which was to begin airing in mid-February.

In response, fans took it upon themselves to set up the Internet network, but running it has not been easy.
JYJ’s public relations official said, “The Internet site was made by fans, so there has been formal discussion on whether JYJ will appear.”

When a video featuring Grand National Party Lawmaker Chun Yu-ok offering her congratulations for the site’s inauguration went up on Mar. 5, fans objected strenuously, arguing that the broadcast “harms JYJ’s image.” As of Tuesday, the site’s managers had temporarily suspended broadcasting, leaving an apology for the content of the broadcast.

Meanwhile, calls from fans for JYJ’s appearance on terrestrial television have increased by the day. On Feb. 28, 86,418 overseas fans of the group submitted a petition to Seoul Central District Court demanding a guarantee that JYJ would be able to appear on television. On Monday, the “League of JYJ Fans” began posting advertisements in 21 Seoul subway stations, including Apgujeong and Hongik University Stations, bearing copy such as “JYJ, We Support Your Youth” and “Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun, and Kim Junsu, Take the Express Train to Public Broadcasting.”

JYJ’s Fanmade Internet Broadcasting Station Shuts Down After Four Days

The internet broadcasting station established by JYJ’s fans has shut down, four days after its launch.
The opening of ‘ilovejyj.com‘ brought in an influx of visitors that crashed its servers. The admins decided to push back its official launch to March 4th, but when fans flocked to view the new site, discord began running through all corners of the fanbase.

Fans discovered that pictures, videos, and other content were used without notice or permission. In addition, the admins had attempted to request fan meeting tickets from JYJ’s agency, which brought up complaints about how the admins were arrogantly dictating the direction of the station.

Further issues arose when the station released an interview of a female politician who was discovered to have had no relation or association to member Park Yoochun. Although admins announced an apology and clarification shortly after, fans continued to criticize the station once they found that the admins were “speaking low of member Kim Junsu” in the following broadcast, which eventually led fans to demand that the station be shut down.

On March 8th, the admins posted the following message:
“We would like to apologize for disturbing the fandom, and as of today, this internet broadcasting station will be closed. The staff members, who are currently working to close it down, are all worried about what negative effects this will have on JYJ. We felt that this short term broadcasting station caused bigger confusion every time our content or broadcasts were reported to the public.
Under the belief that no one would trust the remaining staff members anymore, we mutually decided to close the station.

We would like to express our genuine apologies towards JYJ and their families, their agents, and associates. Everyone watched over our intentions with positive views, and we are thankful and apologetic for the help and support we have been given.”
A representative of the station added, “Due to my carelessness, I have wounded JYJ, their families, and all of their associates who agreed to an interview with us. For that, I would like to bow my head in apology. Our internet broadcasting station will be closing because of my carelessness. For a hundred times over, I would like to apologize.”

JYJ’s Internet Broadcast Station’s Representative Apologizes and Takes Responsibility

In the midst of the sudden closing of the internet broadcasting station made by JYJ’s fans, a netizen who worked as the representative posted an apology.

At the front of the internet broadcast station’s cafe, the individual started off by writing, “I apologize for keeping you waiting for such a long time. I’m Helena, the former representative for the internet broadcast station.”

She continued, “Because of me, JYJ, their family, interviewers, and fans were hurt. For this, I bow my head and give my deepest apologies. I am especially sorry to the parents of the three members, so today, I first went to go see Jaejoong’s parents to deliver my apology. As soon as I get in contact with the parents of the other two members, I will go to apologize directly.”

Helena, who saw the closing of the station as her fault, stated, “To those who became members and to the hardworking staff, I am very sorry and thankful. Also, to everyone who stood by with interest and affection and, although bitter, even to those who denounced us… I sincerely thank you.”

[Trans] ILoveJYJ.com Jaejoong Day Interview with Family Part 01 – JJ’s Adorable Childhood

A special way of education

The background behind the birth of “Insa” Jaejoong (T/N: “Insa” is the Korean word for saying hello or goodbye—in this context, it means saying hello to one’s elders)

Father: So, for that, our Jaejoong… on relationships between the seniors and the juniors there are a lot of cases like that, but on saying hello, I really taught it well—killed it.
Even when he was young, like when he comes home from school, he was the boy who said hello ten times if you met him ten times that day.

Mother: So one day he says—

“Mommy Mommy’

- What

“Mommy you know the Ajusshi (T/N: non-young man) upstairs… but I met him ten times (today). So I said hello all ten times but later the Ajusshi goes “Hey you dork (T/N: not quite the literal translation, but know that the name he calls JJ is rough but affectionate), stop saying hello, you dork. It’s ten times today!! And he just really scolded me… cuz I said hello ten times.”

- The Ajusshi is doing it because he finds you cute (T/N: literally, pretty, nice), it’s not that he’s scolding you, he’s doing it because you’re too lovable (adorable) because you’re so good at saying hello you’re cute.
“Ah~ I see^^”

——————————————-
Did he have the disposition to become an entertainer?

Kim Jaejoong opens his eyes to Fashion.

Older Sister: When we used to go to Everland (T/N: a theme park in Korea) Jaejoong was in elementary school. But when we used to go to Everland I liked clothes quite a bit, and at that time Sechs Kies (T/N: a Korean idol group) was in. There was this Burberry-style coat that Sechs Kies wore.

But that coat was gray. Something that really bling bling celebs wear. But I was working in the store one day and someone just wooshed by. I looked and it was Jaejoong. For my part, I was so embarrassed. This tiny kid came wearing his older sister’s clothes—how embarrassing is that. So I told him openly “Hey… hurry up and go home and change, change”… I told him that.

Jaejoong… for his part, in that young mind that he had, he had come wearing that in order to look cool, and his sister does not say that he looks good (T/N: literally, nice, pretty) but instead tells him to hurry up and go home and change… at that time he felt upset at his sister for the first time, he told me that story.

So because of that I wonder whether he had the “disposition to become an entertainer” from then on…
When he was younger he did straighten himself looking at the mirror before going to (even) the supermarket, but when he got to middle school it started to get worse, and

When he went outside and he wore clothes… now a bit before that he used to even wear his sisters’ pants.

Because he had so many sisters he used to even wear our high-waisted pants for quite a while. Probably there are some pictures of that.

But starting one day, he asked Mom that starting middle school to (buy) him clothes too… so
(it seemed that) from then on he was embarrassed to wear clothes that his sisters wore around all the time…

——————————————-

We hear that his sisters doted on him

Older Sister: Ne~~ver could he possibly come home after being beaten up (by others). The eighth (sister) is only one year apart from Jaejoong and she was in the same grade as Jaejoong because Jaejoong was born in the early months of the year (T/N: in Korea, if you are born in the early months of the year, you go to school with children who were born the previous year), and so although it was often that they would fight at home, when Jaejoong would get a blow at school, she didn’t stay put. Even if it took grabbing onto his hair and shaking him, Jaejoong never got hit.

Really… I shouldn’t say this on air but there were talks about Jaejoong’s sister being a gangster, they really were afraid of the sisters to that degree.
Jaejoong, under the protection of his sisters, probably didn’t get hit, at least.

——————————————-

Mother: So… his sister bought him a radio. The thing wasn’t a recorder, it was a radio that you could listen to, she bought him that. Like, I’ll buy you this, so study hard.

So she bought him the radio but Jaejoong didn’t study but now started to like the songs of H.O.T. (T/N: a Korean idol group)… since he liked them so much now, his sisters would by him the tapes and like them together.

So… now Jaejoong… he said that he had the thought that “ah… if I learn like this I feel like I can also become a good (entertainer) like this…” thoughts like that.

So from middle school on, “Mommy when I grow up I’ll be an entertainer.”

He even pierced his ears and would wear earrings during break but when he’d go to school then he’d take them out.

And for his hair, he’d practice on it—he’d dye them blond, then in red… so I said

You dye your hair in black right now…

(and he says) Mom I did something like this for the first time, can you please forgive me (and let me keep my hair)

So I told him, keep the hair for the vacation but once school starts dye it black… and he says yes.

[Trans] ILoveJYJ.com Jaejoong Day Interview with Family Part 02 – JJ’s Runaway Story

The Greatest Sponsor (of them all) was the Lady at the PC-Room (T/N: A PC-Room is a form of internet café that is prevalent in Korea. People pay the PC-Room to use its computers (often to play computer games.))

Mother:

So we say, you don’t study and you only go to PC-Rooms

So we scolded him and the sisters also go

Mom, Jaejoong went to the Arcade… But if you went to the Arcade, he wouldn’t be there.

So in the neighborhood there was a PC-Room, and if you go in the afternoon, the Ajumma (T/N: non-young woman—the female equivalent of “Ajusshi”) there would let you (play for) an hour if you just brought 500 KRW (T/N: approx. 0.50 USD), saying you’re good to have come (T/N: literally, “pretty,” “nice”)

(Jaejoong says to the PC-Room owner) “You know, I~ I’m going to sing in order to later become a singer. Would it be okay if I practice my singing here?”

- Okay, you come in the afternoons when there are no customers.

So whenever school got out, Jaejoong would just disappear.

But later—the Ajumma told me…

Well, as for Jaejoong, he didn’t say it (to us), he didn’t say that he practiced in the PC-Room.
But the PC-Room Ajumma said—

When (it became known that) Jaejoong was going to debut as an entertainer and become a singer
Then the PC-Room owner, the Ajumma said—your son, he practiced so much in our house (T/N: the PC-Room—this is a way of friendly speech)

When he came, I’d tell him, oh you’re so cute (T/N: literally, “pretty,” “nice”), come practice and sing, and I’d give him time (to do so in the PC-Room)

And he really became a singer. Really, I am just too happy… she went on like that.

So I did hear that Jaejoong had done all that.

He didn’t practice separately at home, or practice to others or anything like that.

Older Sister:

Jaejoong ne~ver would practice at home.

He didn’t do it in front of us or our parents

He has never shown his singing in front of his family, except for the youngest sister Su-young.
So we were also wondering—is Jaejoong really that good at singing? So we were wondering that, and he was really that good.

But our mother, she’s a very good singer.

So his humming to himself (instinctively), it seems that he did it from birth.

As for his dancing, for me I can’t tell whether he dances well.

Jaejoong… he is a good dancer, but when he dances, I can see his face and

I find it so funny, I just can’t watch him.

————————————–

Did you not oppose (Jaejoong becoming a) singer?

The Kim Jaejoong Runaway-Story

Mother:
So in the beginning he became a high school freshman and he goes

“Mom, can I become a singer?”

- A singer, what (kind of a question is that)? Just study hard. I don’t like such things.

“But still, Mom, I want to be a singer,” he goes.

- You can’t be a singer, I told him

And at first now, he (lost his way) and went wandering off, since we forbade him.

Ah. And so one time we told him to go out and deliver jjazangmyun (T/N: A Korean noodle dish with Chinese roots. It is a popular delivery item. For Americans, imagine becoming a pizza delivery man.) or something to become a singer, and

He really up and went! Because (he thought) that if he slept (in an unsavory place) on the way to Seoul from the station he might get kidnapped for bad things, he walked without sleep for two days. To find a job.

But because he was young and a minor, the Chinese restaurant wouldn’t use him.

He wanted to do even jjazangmyun deliveries but they wouldn’t use him because he was so young. Really he wanted to even deliver jjazangmyun.

So he went to deliver newspapers, and the owner

He found that Jaejoong, whichever way he looked, wasn’t a rotten egg and he was (instead) very cute (T/N: literally, “pretty,” “nice”), and so

(Jaejoong asks the owner) “You know… I haven’t eaten in two days, can you please order some
jjazangmyun for me” and so the (owner) orders for him jjazangmyun and a meal and he went and ate, and says

“I haven’t slept in two nights, I’ll sleep just a little bit.”

The owner (says to Jaejoong), you—if I’m going to hire you, you have to give me your address.

“You know… I’m not a bad person. I came out because I want to be a singer. In my house my parents forbade me so I ran away. My house, I have eight sisters. I live in Kongju blah blah (T/N: Kongju is Jaejoong’s hometown). I’m not a bad person so you can hire me.”

So he fell asleep and this owner, he (calls me and says)

Do you have a son? I’ll keep him here, so come and take him.

So the oldest sister who was in Incheon (T/N: nearby city) came and took him.

After that, we asked Jaejoong, do you really want to do it that much, and he answers he really does want to do it.

But still we told him not to, but you know the fifth sister, the one who just had a baby.

The fifth sister and the fourth sister said

If you really want to do it, Jaejoong, do an Audition.

Since the sisters had a car while working,

On a Saturday they took him up there and back.

On the first day he got cut and he entered (into the Audition) the next day, and now

Best Look, Best Body… (T/N: Literally, “Face-Boss” and “(Body) Figure-Boss”) he won something like that, Jaejoong.

———————————–

We heard that the sisters were a big help.

Older Sister:

So the 5th sister Yusun (younger than the speaking sister) was like, then I’ll take him up there (to the Audition) secretly

Yusun and Jaejoong, they woke up without Dad knowing and they took the bus up together to Seoul.
That was when everything began.

Jaejoong, he always says, that the fifth sister

The one who helped him become a singer was the fifth sister, he says.

Everyone probably knows. Jaejoong is rea~lly nice (kindhearted).

He’s a guy, but because there were eight sisters and one boy, even his personality when he was young, was a girl, a girl.

A girl to the bone (T/N: literally, “by nature,” “from the sky”).

The sisters, so I’m the fourth and so I’d tell my younger sister to go buy me something, for example to go buy me ice cream. I for sure told the fifth sister, but

In the end Jaejoong would go out and buy it.

The order would get passed and passed down until in the end it reached Jaejoong.

Jaejoong, he would have gone immediately if (some other) sister had told him to, but since the sister who was only one year apart from him had told him (to do these things), how annoying is that.

But still, he would go.

Jaejoong is really nice (kindhearted). From the perspective of others, they think things like, Jaejoong, because of the sisters, even his personality is that of a girl.

In some ways, Jaejoong has the strength of a man, but (in other ways) he is soft (delicate)

As he said on TV, Jaejoong really holds it in (endures pain) a lot. He holds everything in, endures it, and
He endures it three times. When I say three times, the “one” time in those three times isn’t the one time that we think of, but rather ten times, combine them and that’s the “one” time (in the three times).

His heart is really that big.

So that’s probably why Jaejoong (*embarrassed*)… that’s why he is so popular. This might be just his sister thinking but…

JYJ Thanked Fans for the Fan-Run Internet Broadcast Station

Towards the fans who set up an internet broadcasting station dedicated to them, male group JYJ expressed their gratitude.

Yesterday on March 3rd at 20:00 JYJ’s Korean fans launched their internet broadcasting station for the first time. The website got such hot reaction as so many fans connected at the same time thus put the server paralyzed.

This JYJ internet station that is created by fans as expected is not an official website. However JYJ official revealed that JYJ members indeed notice about this project through a phone call with Star News on Tuesday afternoon, he said, “We fully notice that fans made their own capital investments (to build the station). In fact, JYJ members are also aware of this matter, they’re really grateful for the love of all fans,”

Furthermore, “However if we recognize this internet broadcasting station dedicated to JYJ, ‘iloveJYJ’ as an official station, it will lose its genuineness. We want to preserve this fansite as a website that is created by fans due to their pure love.”
